ABOUT THE RECORDING

“Soulful Equanimity,” released on May 1, 2019, is a collaborative jazz album between saxophonist Teodross Avery and pianist Gary Motley. This self-released collection features eight tracks spanning 1 hour and 3 minutes, blending contemporary jazz with gospel influences. The album includes thoughtful interpretations of spiritual and secular classics, opening with “Dear Lord” and “Come Sunday,” and featuring powerful renditions of “What’s Going On,” “Freddie’s Dead,” and “Redemption Song” among others. The duo’s musical conversation creates a contemplative atmosphere that lives up to the album’s title, balancing soulful expression with meditative calm.
